"Voter turnout, which was a dismal 48 percent for the Lok Sabha
elections earlier this year, has improved and was around 55 percent in
the 36 Maharashtra Assembly constituencies in the island city and
suburbs," an official said.
While polling percentage in Mumbai city was around 54 percent, in suburban Mumbai, it was around 56 percent.
Addressing a poll rally at Borivli in North Mumbai on October 12, a day before campaign for the Maharashtra Assembly polls ended, Modi had asked voters to go out in large numbers to vote.
He had reminded them of the dubious record of poor voter turnout in Mumbai during Lok Sabha polls.
"In the October 15 Assembly polls, you will get a chance to undo what happened in the Lok Sabha polls as far as polling percentage is concerned," he had said.
