Burdwan District Magistrate Saumitra Mohan said that West Bengal
Governor Keshri Nath Tripathy gave the state award for Best District to
Burdwan for its excellent feat towards empowerment of persons with
disabilities on 'World Disability Day' on December 3.
Mohan
informed that 26 Disability Camps have been held in 23 blocks of the
district so far and 10 more would be held in the district by December
this year.
Around 14,814 persons have attended the camps
where 9,412 persons have been screened and 7,233 persons reviewed and/or
issued Disability Certificate and Identity Cards, the District
Magistrate said on Friday.
Regular Camps are being organized by Block Medical Officer Health (BMOH) at the PHC level.
He
said the district administration issued over 650 Legal Guardianship
Certificates till date and has set a target of 1000 by March 2015.
Mohan
said Burdwan district has a quota of 3253 Disability pension which has
been exhausted as the district administration has sanctioned 3253
Disability pension to 3253 persons.
The Disability pension
are being disbursed through bank accounts only from April 2014 to ensure
legitimate beneficiaries get the pension, he said adding that the
district administration has requested the state government to enhance
the district's quota of Disability pension.
On Disability
Scholarship of Rs 300 which are given to disabled school students, he
said the district has also exhausted its quota of 430 Disability
Scholarship as same number of scholarship are being to disabled
students.
A fully operational District Disability Rehabilitation Centre has come up at 'Bankura More' of Burdwan town, the DM said.
He said around 131 Prosthetic Aids were distributed this year in the district among disabled persons.
