The Government directed the authorities concerned to remove all
unauthorized flex board hoardings across the state with immediate
effect. Those put up with permission of local civic bodies would be
allowed to remain till their expiry period.
"The cabinet decided to bring in a law to ban and restrict use of flex and plastic in the state," Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters after a Cabinet meeting in Thiruvananthapuram.
"We will start by removing flexboards with my pictures and that of other Ministers," he said, adding that a comprehensive cleanliness drive program would be launched from Gandhi Jayanti.
In a bid to help rubber growers who are facing a crisis due to fall in prices of natural rubber, the Cabinet agreed in principle to use rubber modified bitumen for road construction by the Public Works Department (PWD).
Chandy said Kochi Refinery has been asked to produce more rubber modified bitumen for PWD.
