Omar government failed on all fronts: PDP

PDP Patron Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed while addressing an election rally here today said "the present NDA government headed by Narendra Modi has doubted credentials of present regime of Omar Abdullah. That is why, instead of sanctioning funds to the state government for flood victims, the Centre has announced to send funds directly to the victims."

Mufti said Omar government has failed on all the fronts particular on peace and development and instead of resorted to corruption and nepotism and destroyed all democratic institutions in the state, Mufti said.

He said failure of the present government has squeezed space of dignity for all section of society, and all the positive initiatives taken by the previous government have been reversed and the atmosphere of hope that was generated, in the state, has disappeared.

Assuring to address grievances and aspirations of all regions and sub-regions of the state, Mufti said formation of PDP government in the State is writing on the wall.

PDP accuses NC of derailing peace process along International Border

"The present regime led by National Conference (NC) has derailed the process of peace along the International Border. It is very unfortunate that the state government has also failed to carry forward the agenda of peace and development initiated by previous PDP-led regime," the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said while addressing an election rally here.

Mufti said during its tenure of three years from 2002 to 2005, PDP provided "corruption-free governance" to the people of the state.

"In just three years, we provided corruption-free governance to the people by bringing total transparency and accountability in the functioning of the government," he said.

'Fake encounters taken seriously due to AFSPA revocation demand'

"I have seen two major developments for which I am actually pretty reassured. One is that fake encounters and killings like Machil and Nowgam have now started to be taken a lot more seriously and justice is at least in the process of being done, which was not the case before I took up this issue of AFSPA.

"So, that for me is some cause of satisfaction. The fact is that we would continue to fight for the revocation of AFSPA, there are no two ways about that," Omar told reporters here on the sidelines of a prayer meet at the mausoleum of his grandfather and former CM Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his birth anniversary.

The CM said the fact that the BJP was talking about creating conducive conditions for the Act to go led him to believe that he was "right".

"More importantly, today even the BJP is talking about the revocation of AFSPA. The BJP vice-president in-charge Jammu and Kashmir has said that the BJP will also create conditions conducive for (revocation of) AFSPA. That is what I have been saying.

"I have been saying that we have created those conditions. Now the BJP is toeing my line as well. So, I think, both these things led me to believe that I was right to raise this issue," he said.

The BJP had said on December 1 that if elected to power in the state, the party would create an atmosphere where a "stringent" law like the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) would not be required.

"Our understanding is that if BJP comes to power in the state, there would not be any need of such a law (AFSPA). We will create such an  atmosphere where there would be no fear and everything will move forward peacefully and there would be no need of a stringent law," BJP leader and party in-charge of Kashmir affairs Ramesh Arora had said.

Omar said it was "unfortunate" that because of some "forces" at the Centre he was not able to take the issue of AFSPA to "its logical conclusion".

"It is unfortunate that due to various forces at the Centre – both in the UPA and the NDA – I was not able to take it to the logical conclusion, but that won't stop me from trying," he said.

J&K killings: Army orders probe, Omar says deaths 'avoidable'

Omar suggested that the incident could hamper the improving security situation in the valley.

The 44-year old National Conference (NC) leader said that the deaths of the youths has further spoiled the poll atmosphere, which is already suffering due to post flood reconstruction challenge, in the state.

"Have spoken to Union Defence Minister @arunjaitley reg. yesterday's incident where army firing resulted in 2 avoidable deaths," Omar tweeted on Tuesday morning.

:Such killings have no place in an otherwise improving security environment where militancy incidents are at record low levels," he added.

"These deaths have served to vitiate the poll atmosphere already strained by the post flood reconstruction challenge that people face," he further said.
