UP, Delhi to work on development of border areas

This was decided after a meeting between Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and the Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung in the Union capital on Tuesday.

An official said that it was decided to have encroachment free and planned development in the Yamuna region. The official also said that land allotment for extension of educational institution campuses was also discussed by the Delhi government.

A consensus was arrived at the meeting that chief secretaries of both the governments would survey land records and take a decision on land utilization.

NHRC issues notice to UP government over bonded labourers

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report citing the rescue of these bonded labourers from Sinhar village in the state. The labourers, all from Bihar, were found in the brick kiln on December 2.

The kiln owner did not pay the minimum wages to them, it was found during a raid by labour department officials, a communique from the NHRC said on Friday. It quoted Additional Labour Commissioner Pankaj Singh Rana as saying that the number of labourers could be more.

The NHRC has sought a response from the state government within a fortnight, detailing the number of labourers rescued and the monetary relief and rehabilitation provided to them.

UP Lokyukta recommends disqualification of two MLAs

The major allegation against Uma Shanker Singh of BSP and Bajrang Bahadur Singh of BJP is that they are still taking government contracts, Mehrotra said.
  
"I have sent a special recommendation to the Governor requesting him that the Election Commission is not giving any advice, therefore, he should take action and decide," he said.
  
"If not satisfied with my report, they should table it in the Assembly. The decision has to be taken by the
Governor," he added. The Lokayuta said that he initially sent the report in February to the Chief Minister, which was later forwarded to the Governor.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh to visit Lucknow today

After being sworn-in as Union Minister of Home Affairs, Rajnath Singh will be visiting his parliamentary constituency Lucknow on Friday for the first time.

Singh, who was earlier a Member of Parliament from Lucknow, contested and won election from Lucknow in 2014 General Elections.

During the visit, Singh will attend a few functions in the Uttar Pradesh capital where he is expected to be felicitated by party workers.

The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Singh will on Sunday attend the swearing in ceremony of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu as Chief Minister of residuary Andhra Pradesh, sources said.
