Don't be misled by AAP: BJP MP to Delhi voters

Addressing a "nukkad sabha" at R K Puram ahead of the Assembly polls, he said Prime Minister Modi has in just six months taken India and put it in a place of "vishwa ka guru" and in the coming four-and-a-half years, the country's fate and future will undergo a sea change under his leadership.

"In the context of elections in Delhi, when the government will be formed here and MPs from here will be elected to Rajya Sabha, then Narendra Modi will have majority in Rajya Sabha as well. Once this happens, there will no hurdle in doing work anywhere.

"Arvind Kejriwal will try to mislead saying this is Vidhan Sabha election... Narendra Modi will run the country and he will run Delhi as well," the MP said.

In a bid to woo the Valmiki voters in the area, he said that this community was the bravest amongst Hindus as they had accepted carrying garbage on their heads but did not change their religion and urged them to support the party.

Delhi Congress targets BJP, AAP over increased power bills

Addressing a rally at the Uttam Nagar constituency here, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief Arvinder Singh Lovely said it was for the first time that without any official inquiry or request, power load has been increased automatically.
  
"People of Delhi were expecting that the power bills will be lowered. But the way power bills have increased, it exposes the BJP and AAP who had promised a 30 and 50 percent decrease in power bills, " Lovely said .
  
He further said that the power hike roll-back in November was a 'temporary solution' given by the BJP.
  
"I want to tell them that in the coming elections, the people of Delhi will give a permanent solution to the problem and bring us back to power," he added.

Giriraj Singh takes dig at Kejriwal, calls him 'impersonator'

"Kejriwal is someone who wants to play 'Hanuman' in Ramlila but later backs out. He promised free electricity, giving legal status to slums but when he realised that he can not do all that, he went back to 'dharna'. Society is full of impersonators and I warn people not to fall prey to him.

"Someone who had not fulfilled his responsibilities, don't give him a second chance," he said while addressing a rally at Dilshad garden area.

The Minister of state for Micro, Small and Medium enterprises also slammed the Congress for indulging in "appeasement politics" with the minority community to garner votes in the garb of secularism.

Singh, who had stoked a controversy during the run up to the General elections by saying that those who want to stop Narendra Modi from becoming Prime Minister should go to Pakistan, blamed media for misquoting him.

"That was cut and paste job by the media persons, but I am against minority appeasement. Congress exercises so called secular politics, that is actually politics of appeasement," he said.

Denouncing the fire incident at a church in East Delhi, Singh said, "I came to know about the church fire through the media. The incident is condemnable and I believe in 'sarvdharm sambhav'," he said.

Drawing parallels between Swami Vivekananda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the minister said, "Just like Vivekananda did in Chicago, Modi is bringing India's glory back by speaking at international forums."

AAP to file criminal case against BJP: Kejriwal

“We are filing criminal defamation against BJP," Kejriwal tweeted.

Earlier on Monday, BJP had demanded a probe into AAP's funding, with one of its parliamentarians Ramesh Bidhuri saying that its delegation would complain to the union finance minister.

Kejriwal tweeted, "I have been challenging BJP and cong (Congress) to disclose their list of donors (the way we do). Wud (Would) media give similar coverage to us?"The former chief minister accused the BJP of terrorizing AAP donors.

He further added "For the first time, a political party trying transparent funding n disclosing its list of donors. BJP trying to terrorize our donors. Fair?"

For the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party has been raising funds by hosting lunches and dinners. At Sunday's luncheon in the capital, over Rs 50 lakh was collected.

The AAP's source of funding has been questioned earlier as well with the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) also ordering a probe into its funding.

Now Kejriwal to share his 'man ki baat' with people of national capital

Kejriwal's radio segment will play on private FM channels. AAP had made effective use of radio in its campaign when it debuted in the Delhi elections last year, airing messages from Kejriwal.

Fresh elections in Delhi are yet to be announced, but the airwaves have already turned into a political battlefield. 

During the 2013 assembly elections, about 7 FM channels aired AAP’s messages, essentially of 6-7 types, in phases.

The Delhi Assembly earlier this month was dissolved, paving the way for fresh elections that will end the political hibernation since the AAP government fell in February.

A notification issued by the Home Ministry said that President Pranab Mukherjee has dissolved the "Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi with immediate effect" on November 4.

The Union Cabinet had in November first week recommended the dissolution of the Assembly following recommendation of LG Najeeb Jung after talks on Monday with BJP, Congress and AAP which expressed inability to form government and sought fresh mandate.

While the fresh elections may be held early next year.

The Election Commission cancelled the notification for by-election in three assembly constituencies in Delhi following the dissolution of the state assembly.

The Election Commission had on October 25 announced that Mehrauli, Tughlakabad and Krishna Nagar would go to the polls on November 25.

BJP legislators from the three places were elected to the Lok Sabha in May. Delhi has been under President's rule since February 17.

AAP collects Rs 91 lakh from Kejriwal's fund-raiser dinner

"We collected Rs 91 lakh from the fund-raiser dinner last night. Rs 36 lakh were collected from donor passes, Rs 36 lakh was through cheque donation from those who came and our volunteers collected Rs 21 lakh," AAP leader Preeti Sharma Menon told here on Friday.

"The next fundraiser will be in Bengaluru. We are impressed with the response to our fund-raiser drive," she said. With online donations, AAP is looking to raise funds differently to take on BJP which is relying on 'brand Modi'.

"The Mumbai dinner had space for a maximum of 200 donors, mostly our supporters. Most of those who attended were young professionals, some diamond merchants and a few directors from Bollywood," she said.

AAP's Maharashtra unit has a target of raising Rs 5 crore over the next two months through reach-out drives," she said.

In the run-up to this year's Lok Sabha elections, Kejriwal had in March hosted a fund-raising dinner in Bengaluru inviting criticism from Congress which questioned whether the AAP leader — who then also charged Rs 20,000 per person for having a meal with him — could claim to represent the common man.

"Kejriwal has appealed people to donate for the party," Menon said. To encourage donations, AAP is tweeting online donors' names with the hashtag #IfundHonestPolitics.

After the Delhi Assembly elections in December 2013, the party has so far received donations from over a lakh donors. The maximum money has come from Maharashtra, followed by Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

HC seeks EC, Kejriwal's response on plea for AAP derecognition

While issuing notice to Kejriwal and six of his party members, Justice Manmohan directed them to file their response within four weeks.
   
It also asked Election Commission of India (ECI) to file a counter affidavit within four weeks.
   
Rejoinder affidavit from the petitioner, if any, be filed before the next date of hearing, it said.
   
The court notice came on a plea filed by Janraajya Party, an unrecognised political party, which sought directions to the ECI to decide the issue of "whether or not AAP has indeed committed fraud and forgery while submitting the mandatory 100 affidavits of founding members to the poll panel at the time of its registration".
   
Advocates Lohitaksha Shukla and Raghav Awasthi, who filed the petition on behalf of Janraajya Party, submitted that the ECI instead of taking any action informed the petitioner that since the matter involves a criminal offence of forgery, it would not initiate any action until the police completes its investigation.

The plea has also sought necessary directions to the SHO of the police station concerned to register an FIR against the accused persons for criminal conspiracy, cheating and using forged documents as genuine ones.
   
It has said that the petitioner party had filed a complaint before poll panel on August 19, 2013 but the ECI has been delaying the matter without giving any plausible reasons.

Won't project CM candidate in Delhi: Congress

Party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters that the Congress always fought polls under collective leadership but it was surprising that BJP which projects chief ministerial candidate was not doing so in Delhi.
  
The chief ministerial candidate of Delhi of BJP is Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said taking a dig at the ruling party at the Centre.
  
Asked about the statement of Dikshit, who led the Congress government in Delhi for 15 long years, that she does not want to contest, he said that may be her personal view, but a decision on who should be in the fray is taken by the high command and not individual leaders.
  
In the Assembly polls last year, Congress had not only lost power but finished third after BJP and newly-found Aam Aadmi Party.
  
Singhvi dismissed as "absolutely rubbish" speculation that the party has constituted a committee for Delhi polls in which two controversial leaders Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler have been accommodated.
  
"These kind of rumours are absolutely rubbish. There is no committee, no  meeting. It is time media should also exercise restraint and get their information checked from the most authentic of sources in the party", he said.
  
AICC General Secretary Shakeel Ahmed, who is in-charge of party affairs in Delhi, also spoke in similar vein. He said that the party would constitute the relevant committees only after the announcement of the poll schedule.

Congress slams LG for seeking government formation, says polls only way

"It is surprising that the Lt Governor is exploring the possibility (of government formation) when not only Delhi, but the whole country knows that it is not possible in Delhi in the present situation," Congress general secretary Shakeel Ahmed told reporters here.

Ahmed, who is the in-charge of party affairs for Delhi, said that the Lt Governor should be in fact the first person who should know that no party would be able to form the government here at this juncture.

The Delhi Assembly has been in suspended animation after the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government stepped down from office in February this year. The AAP government had the outside support of Congress.

Ahmed alleged that the moves initiated by the Lt Governor were "all delaying tactics".

"This is all delaying tactics. BJP is trying to come to power through the back door with the help of the honourable Lt Governor. BJP is trying to run away from elections," he said.     There is "no other option" but to hold fresh polls in Delhi, he added.

At present, BJP and ally Akali Dal with its lone MLA, account for 29 legislators in the Delhi Assembly. The party will require the support of five more MLAs to prove its majority in a House whose strength stands reduced to 67 MLAs after three BJP legislators won in the Lok Sabha polls from the city. The total strength of the Delhi Assembly is 70.

Bypolls for the three vacant seats are to be held late next month.

At the AICC briefing, too, the Lt Governor came in for criticism with party spokesperson Shobha Oza wondering what Jung had been doing all these months and why he has suddenly invited political parties to explore the possibility of government formation.

Told, meanwhile, that the previous Congress-led UPA government had appointed Jung to the post and asked whether that had been a "misjudgment", Oza said that the party was not questioning his appointment.

Centre may opt for fresh polls in Delhi

"If no government formation takes place, we will have no option but to hold elections. We will take a quick decision according to the suggestion of the Lt Governor," the government functionary said.
  
The NDA government nor the BJP was interested in doing anything "undemocratic" that will bring "disrepute" to the party as well as the government ahead of the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand, he said.
  
By-elections for three assembly seats in Delhi are also to be held next month.
  
The Centre, on Tuesday, told the Supreme Court that the President has given his consent to the Lt Governor's proposal to invite BJP to form government.
  
Rapping the Centre and the LG over the delay, the apex court said that in a democracy President's Rule cannot go on forever and questioned why the authorities failed to act expeditiously.
  
At present, BJP and ally Akali Dal with one MLA, account for 29 legislators and will require the support of five more MLAs to prove majority in a House of 67 if it decides to form the government. The party is hoping of getting the support of expelled AAP MLA Vinod Kumar Binny and Independent MLA from Mundka Ramvir Shokeen.
  
The total strength of the Delhi Assembly is 70 and the three vacancies it has to be filled in by-elections late next month.
  
AAP had formed the government in Delhi with the support of Congress. The government led by Arvind Kejriwal had resigned on February 14 after the party's pet project, Janlokpal Bill, could not be passed due to opposition from BJP and Congress.
  
President's Rule was imposed in Delhi on February 17.
  
Jung had not favoured dissolution of the Delhi Assembly as recommended by the council of ministers headed by Kejriwal and kept the Assembly in suspended animation.
