BJP won Lok Sabha polls by playing communal card: Rahul Gandhi

PM Modi 'most searched' personality on Google

"Modi is one of the top most searched personalities this year, even ahead of Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, making him the first politician to gain more popularity than film celebrities on the web," Google India said in a statement here.

The company's 'Year in Search' lists this year's (2014) major events, biggest interests and most searches on its global web site.

"The historic Lok Sabha elections in April-May emerged as the country's first digital election, revealing that an online presence mattered for all political parties while 'Elections 2014' topped our trending charts," the statement said.

Major sport tournaments like FIFA World Cup in June-July in Brazil and Indian Premier League (IPL) T20 in April-May across the cities topped the trending searches, breaking records as fans 'googled' for teams, players, scores and match results.

Goa CM held tourists responsible for rising drug rackets

Notably, Parsekar's statement has come after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a recent 'Man ki baat' programme on radio, voiced concern over the "devastating" drug addiction menace and called it a "national pain." He had also said that the money spent by youth on drugs could be funding terrorism.

"There is no denial that drugs exist in the state. We want that drug-peddling should be controlled. In the recent times, police have made large drug seizures," Parsekar told reporters here.

"Some tourists come here only to do drugs. These tourists don't contribute towards any revenue generation. They arebankrupt. In the days to come, we will maintain stricter vigil on such kind of tourists," he said.

In the fourth and penultimate phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections in 18 constituencies, the voters defied separatists' boycott call and chilly weather and came out in good numbers on Sunday to record a 49 percent turnout

PM Modi in JMM bastion, asks people to throw out 'looters'

"Throw out the looters by giving BJP a two-third majority vote for stability in Jharkhand and its development," Modi told an election rally here.

Addressing poll rallies here and at Barheit, the two seats from where Chief Minister Hemant Soren is contesting this time, he said the state has the potential to fill up the coffers of the country but was being looted.

Taking a swipe at JMM Chief Shibu Soren and his son Hemant Soren without taking their names, Modi said, "The father and son filled their own coffers and did nothing for the poor."

Modi said just as a mother does not give sweets to her son if he commits a wrong deed so should the people punish the "looters" in the final phase of voting.

"Shouldn't the youth here get employment so that they don't have to go thousands of miles away for job?"

Asking the people not to believe in rumours that they would lose land if BJP is voted to power, he said, "No one can snatch tribal land ... Welfare of tribals can only strengthen the country."

Opposition has run out of issues: PM Modi in Jharkhand

Seeking a stable government with full majority in Jharkhand, Modi asked people not to hand over power in the state in the hands of "thekedars" (brokers).

"These days leaders of opposition parties are very upset. They have to campaign for the sake of their survival and are going to Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir too. But they don't have any issues against the Modi government. They are repeating their speeches made during the Lok Sabha elections. There is bankruptcy of issues for opposition," Modi said addressing a poll rally here on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister said his government's policies will help the mineral-rich state progress fast and reap benefits of its coal reserves.

Don't be misled by AAP: BJP MP to Delhi voters

Addressing a "nukkad sabha" at R K Puram ahead of the Assembly polls, he said Prime Minister Modi has in just six months taken India and put it in a place of "vishwa ka guru" and in the coming four-and-a-half years, the country's fate and future will undergo a sea change under his leadership.

"In the context of elections in Delhi, when the government will be formed here and MPs from here will be elected to Rajya Sabha, then Narendra Modi will have majority in Rajya Sabha as well. Once this happens, there will no hurdle in doing work anywhere.

"Arvind Kejriwal will try to mislead saying this is Vidhan Sabha election... Narendra Modi will run the country and he will run Delhi as well," the MP said.

In a bid to woo the Valmiki voters in the area, he said that this community was the bravest amongst Hindus as they had accepted carrying garbage on their heads but did not change their religion and urged them to support the party.

Timing, relevance of restructuring not appropriate: Bihar CM

He demanded that a meeting of the National Development Council be called to consult the states meaningfully and take a holistic view on the issue and noted as a think tank, the proposed institution should have the capabilities to support the ministries and states with knowledge of innovations and best practices of the world.

Manjhi, who heads a Janta Dal-United government in the state supported by Congress and RJD, said, "The manner in which this meeting has been convened, its agenda and format, is pointing to the fact that you have already made up your mind on the subject and the states are here, merely to put their stamp on it".

Participating in the meeting called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Chief Ministers on the issue of renaming and restructuring the plan panel, he said that the speech of the Prime Minister on Independence Day about re-thinking on the Planning Commission has given rise to the public perception that the government has decided to give a 'go-bye to the process of planning' in this country and that the growth and development in this country will be led by the market forces and the capitalists.

"I would request the Prime Minister to take no decision in haste without due diligence and deliberation. The meeting of the National Development Council should be convened to discuss the matter and take a holistic view on the same. If states are to be consulted meaningfully then the proposed structure and modalities should be duly circulated for firming up of their view on the matter. Final view should be taken after considering the observations of all stakeholders," Manjhi said .

He said that though the Prime Minister has talked about strengthening the federal structure and increased, active participation of the states in the formulation of national policies as equal partners and in their effective implementation, nothing substantial has been done to confirm these views.

"I am of the view that to deliberate on this important issue, the appropriate forum would have been the National Development Council. Furthermore it would have been more fruitful and productive if the alternative structure and modalities that are being proposed could have been circulated beforehand to the states, so that they could have firmed up their views on the issue," he added.

Constitution is the 'Holy Book' in democracy: Mamata Banerjee

"Our Constitution says India is a secular country. The Constitution is the Holy Book in a democracy," Banerjee said here reacting to Swaraj's remark that Bhagwad Gita would be declared as 'Rashtriya Granth' (national scripture).

"We respect all holy books equally. They are all our pride," Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress chief, said.

"Quran, Puran, Ved, Vedanta, Bible, Tripitak, Zend-Avesta, Guru Granth Sahib, Gita - we respect all," she said.

Pressing for the Centre to declare Bhagwad Gita as a 'Rashtriya Granth', Swaraj said only a formality remained to be completed in this regard.

Swaraj was speaking at 'Gita Prerna Mahotsav', organized "to celebrate 5,151 years of religious book Gita" at the Red Fort Maidan in Delhi where VHP President Ashok Singhal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should immediately declare the sacred text of Hindus as a national scripture.

Telangana CM assures cooperation to Centre in plan panel revamp

Addressing a meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss future of the Planning Commission, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said on Sunday that primary role of the new institution should be that of a 'Think Tank'.

"For issues specific to a region or a few States, such as the 'Ganga Action Plan' or 'Left Wing Extremism', Chief Ministers of States concerned may be grouped into Sub-Groups to deliberate on issues specific to them," he said.

The 'Think Tank' should minutely examine present and future implications of each policy proposal and the new schemes. "While the decision making will be done by 'Team India', 'Think Tank' should provide technical inputs and will act as a friend, philosopher and guide," he added.

Suggesting that a permanent secretariat with representation from each State may be put in place to assist 'Team India' in its deliberations, he said that the Secretariat may seek policy briefs and expert advice from the proposed 'Think Tank'.

"The present plan cycle of five-years does not look beyond the short and medium term and the Plan gets prepared only after the completion of one or two years in the five year cycle," Rao said while underscoring that the initiative to make the states equal partners in progress and empowering them will make India a strong and vibrant nation.

The Telangana Chief Minister also observed that all transfers from the Centre may be based on the recommendations of the Finance Commission in the future.

"The platform that is now proposed will have to be effective to move towards the goal of cooperative federalism," he noted.

Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed huge voter turnout in the first two phases of assembly polls so far despite boycott call by separatists. Three more phases of polling are yet to take place.

Paying tributes to the defence personnel, the Prime Minister said "125 crore Indians bow to our brave Army men who sacrificed their lives. These men lived & died for the nation. We won't forget them."

PM believes in marketing, concentrating powers in his hands: Rahul Gandhi

Accusing the NDA government of treating democratic processes as "useless", the Congress Vice President said "Today (Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha) Mallikarjun Khargeji was speaking but the microphone was switched off."

"We never did this kind of thing. Their thinking is that the democratic process is useless and not required. They cannot say it outside but this is their thinking," Gandhi said.

Adressing an alumni meet of Youth Congress, Rahul charged BJP does not believe in democracy and on the contrary when there was UPA government at the Centre, leaders of opposition parties always got a chance to speak in parliament.

He also referred to the protest led by him in Parliament over the controversial remarks of union minister Niranjan Jyoti amid a stalemate between the government and the opposition on the issue.

He said while the programmes of UPA were eaimed at giving power to the people at large, those of NDA government "snatch power from people".

"This is the difference. The Prime Minister feels that he alone can run the country. He deeply believes in this. And this can never work. Only people of this country will run it...His thinking is of symbolism. Say anything, market it and then start saying the next thing. People will react to it," Gandhi said as he also sought to pick holes in the Prime Minister's Sansad Gram Yojana scheme.

The Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Minister said Modi will take part in various programmes during his visit and will also carry out a cleanliness drive for nearly an hour as part of his pet project 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan'.

Praising Modi, Mishra said he has been recognized as an efficient and tough leader globally with US President Barack Obama also appreciating him for his efforts to shake up the 'bureaucratic inertia' in the country and describing him as a 'man of action'.

Modi last visited Varanasi in the first week of November.

'Janata Parivar' leaders 'sided with BJP in past for power': CPI

"Those who are following the footsteps of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his policies and have tasted fruits of success with the help of BJP in the past do not look good speaking about farmers' interest or opposing communal forces," Anjaan said.

"Though the unity among 'Janata Parivar' leaders is worth welcoming, Janata Dal (U) leader Nitish Kumar is recourse in a lie," he said.

"Nitish has given a call for dharna in Delhi on December 22 but in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, where their parties are at the helm, no step is being taken for farmers' interest," the leader said, adding, the governments in both the states are following the footsteps of Narendra Modi and pursuing the economic policies of BJP and Congress.

Referring to the eight-year alliance between JD(U) and BJP in Bihar, Anjaan said the talk about opposing communal forces does not suit the leaders of the Janata Parivar.

He also claimed that Janata Dal (Secular) leader H D Deva Gowda took BJP's help for making his son the Chief Minister.

"SP government provided all help for facilitating Sangh camp in Chitrakoot," he added.

When asked about West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's recent controversial comments, he said that the language being used by her is most 'unbecoming' for a cultured person.

Paswan dares Nitish to fight Bihar Assembly polls under Manjhi

"If Nitish Kumar has courage, let him announce that Manjhi would lead the next elections," the Consumer Affairs, Food and Pubic Distribution Minister said in reply to a query at a press conference here.

To a query on AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi's recent criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for 'handing' brooms to the people under 'Swachh Bharat Mission', Paswan stressed upon dignity of labour and cited examples of how people in the West do the job with dignity.

He asked, "You, me and many people are doing it. If Rahul Gandhi doesn't want to sweep, let him not. Who asks him to do?"

"Do you know where Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi stand now? They are nowhere. The Congress has not even got the post of leader of opposition," he said.

Giriraj Singh takes dig at Kejriwal, calls him 'impersonator'

"Kejriwal is someone who wants to play 'Hanuman' in Ramlila but later backs out. He promised free electricity, giving legal status to slums but when he realised that he can not do all that, he went back to 'dharna'. Society is full of impersonators and I warn people not to fall prey to him.

"Someone who had not fulfilled his responsibilities, don't give him a second chance," he said while addressing a rally at Dilshad garden area.

The Minister of state for Micro, Small and Medium enterprises also slammed the Congress for indulging in "appeasement politics" with the minority community to garner votes in the garb of secularism.

Singh, who had stoked a controversy during the run up to the General elections by saying that those who want to stop Narendra Modi from becoming Prime Minister should go to Pakistan, blamed media for misquoting him.

"That was cut and paste job by the media persons, but I am against minority appeasement. Congress exercises so called secular politics, that is actually politics of appeasement," he said.

Denouncing the fire incident at a church in East Delhi, Singh said, "I came to know about the church fire through the media. The incident is condemnable and I believe in 'sarvdharm sambhav'," he said.

Drawing parallels between Swami Vivekananda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the minister said, "Just like Vivekananda did in Chicago, Modi is bringing India's glory back by speaking at international forums."

Till November 26, Modi was leading the polls with 11.1 percent of the total votes while Ferguson protesters with 8.8 percent were ranked second.

But support for Ferguson protesters surged after a recent grand jury's decision of not to indict a white police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black man which caused an outcry across the United States.

"Ferguson protesters surged ahead this week of the leader of the world's largest democracy," Time magazine said on Saturday in a story titled 'Modi Drops From Lead in TIME's Person of the Year Poll.'

"Modi, the newly elected Indian prime minister and leader of the largest democracy in the world, has raised high hopes among Indians that he can invigorate the country's economy and cut bureaucratic red tape that has slowed development in India," the magazine said.

Now Kejriwal to share his 'man ki baat' with people of national capital

Kejriwal's radio segment will play on private FM channels. AAP had made effective use of radio in its campaign when it debuted in the Delhi elections last year, airing messages from Kejriwal.

Fresh elections in Delhi are yet to be announced, but the airwaves have already turned into a political battlefield.

During the 2013 assembly elections, about 7 FM channels aired AAP’s messages, essentially of 6-7 types, in phases.

The Delhi Assembly earlier this month was dissolved, paving the way for fresh elections that will end the political hibernation since the AAP government fell in February.

A notification issued by the Home Ministry said that President Pranab Mukherjee has dissolved the "Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi with immediate effect" on November 4.

The Union Cabinet had in November first week recommended the dissolution of the Assembly following recommendation of LG Najeeb Jung after talks on Monday with BJP, Congress and AAP which expressed inability to form government and sought fresh mandate.

While the fresh elections may be held early next year.

The Election Commission cancelled the notification for by-election in three assembly constituencies in Delhi following the dissolution of the state assembly.

The Election Commission had on October 25 announced that Mehrauli, Tughlakabad and Krishna Nagar would go to the polls on November 25.

BJP legislators from the three places were elected to the Lok Sabha in May. Delhi has been under President's rule since February 17.

AAP collects Rs 91 lakh from Kejriwal's fund-raiser dinner

"We collected Rs 91 lakh from the fund-raiser dinner last night. Rs 36 lakh were collected from donor passes, Rs 36 lakh was through cheque donation from those who came and our volunteers collected Rs 21 lakh," AAP leader Preeti Sharma Menon told here on Friday.

"The next fundraiser will be in Bengaluru. We are impressed with the response to our fund-raiser drive," she said. With online donations, AAP is looking to raise funds differently to take on BJP which is relying on 'brand Modi'.

"The Mumbai dinner had space for a maximum of 200 donors, mostly our supporters. Most of those who attended were young professionals, some diamond merchants and a few directors from Bollywood," she said.

AAP's Maharashtra unit has a target of raising Rs 5 crore over the next two months through reach-out drives," she said.

In the run-up to this year's Lok Sabha elections, Kejriwal had in March hosted a fund-raising dinner in Bengaluru inviting criticism from Congress which questioned whether the AAP leader — who then also charged Rs 20,000 per person for having a meal with him — could claim to represent the common man.

"Kejriwal has appealed people to donate for the party," Menon said. To encourage donations, AAP is tweeting online donors' names with the hashtag #IfundHonestPolitics.

After the Delhi Assembly elections in December 2013, the party has so far received donations from over a lakh donors. The maximum money has come from Maharashtra, followed by Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

"Apart from border, also in hinterlands, there are some inputs that these people (Militants) are trying to disturb election process (in Jammu and Kashmir)," 16 Corps Commander, Lieutenant General K H Singh had said on Wednesday.

Singh had asserted that armed forces were ready and alert to foil their designs and fully prepared to deal with these elements.
