Four held for shooting Delhi Police constable

Police said all the four accused were nabbed from different areas of Delhi Tuesday morning for shooting constable Jagbir.

The two adults have been identified as Santosh and Tunda. The service revolver of the slain constable was also recovered from their possession.

Late on Monday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) demanded a compensation of Rs one crore for the family of  Jagbir Singh.

AAP also demanded that Home Ministry should immediately declare a standard policy to provide Rs one crore compensation for the families of police martyrs.

"It is a matter of serious concern that attacks on police personnel on duty are on the rise in the national capital, and within two days, constables on duty have been fired at two different places.

"When police personnel on duty are being openly attacked, the situation of law and order in the national capital can be well imagined. Any police personnel who loses his life on duty should be considered a martyr," the party said in a statement.

The party also demanded that the Lieutenant Governor must take adequate steps to maintain the law and order situation and provide the necessary safety to the police personnel on field duties.

"The increasing incidents of attacks on police personnel in Delhi, which have already resulted in at least three murders of constables this year alone, also raises serious questions about the equipments provided to beat constables and Police preparedness in dealing with emergency situations," the statement added.

Jagbir was killed and his colleague sustained serious injuries when they were fired on Monday.

The attack took place around 1.30 a m  in west Delhi's Vijay Vihar when the two policemen were patrolling the area.

Police sources said the four accused were going to commit a robbery when the policemen accosted them.
