Dish TV India reports loss in Q3 2013

Indian direct-to-home (DTH) satellite TV operator Dish TV has reported a standalone loss of INR382 million for the quarter ended 31 December 2013, compared with INR449 million in the same period of 2012.

Revenues increased 9.9% to around INR6.1 billion, up 9.9% from the previous year's INR5.58 billion. EBITDA for the quarter was INR1.35 billion.

"A relatively strong currency resulted in a translational loss, due to foreign exchange fluctuation, of Rs70 million on foreign deposits. This, along with an exchange rate adjustment demand worth Rs54 million for transponder payments, negatively impacted the EBITDA for the quarter. In line with expectation, higher promotional and marketing expenses and a sports driven content payout also put pressure on the EBITDA," said Jawahar Goel, managing director, Dish TV.  Read more..
