MTNL to provide high-speed Wi-Fi services at airports, malls, coffee chains and food courts

The struggling state owned telco MTNL will tie up with malls, coffee chains and food courts to roll out high speed Wi-Fi services in Mumbai and Delhi.

MTNL has partnered with C-bot to offer this Wi-Fi service and is targeting an additional 2 lakh to its customer base. It currently has 6 lakh broadband customers.

With this the MTNL customers will avail of Wi-Fi services at indoor locations such as airports, cafes, food courts, apart from their homes.

MTNL Executive Director Peeyush Agarwal said that in Mumbai that the company will be providing 8Mbps speed.

For this the users will have to use a line-bonding modem to avail of this service. For those using the MTNL Wi-Fi services on mobile devices will have to pay Rs. 50 to 100.  This would be in addition to their existing monthly rental.

MTNL is already in pact WITH Mumbai's new terminal T2 to offer this Wi-Fi service and may roll out the service in two more airports. MTNL operates in Mumbai and Delhi.  Read more..
