iOS 7.1 downloads hit 12% mark of all Apple mobile devices

iOS 7.1 downloads hit 12% mark of all Apple mobile devices
Two days after Apple pushed out an update for its iOS mobile operating system, 12 per cent of North American users are now running the new software, according to new data from online ad network Chitika.

Released on Monday, iOS 7.1 features support for the much-hyped CarPlay, as well as improvements to Siri and Touch ID fingerprint sensing on the iPhone 5s. The update also includes some accessibility improvements and a number of other tweaks to iTunes Radio, calendar, and the camera.

"As with most minor version updates, iOS 7.1 adoption rates have been less dramatic than those of its major-version counterparts," Chitika wrote in a blog post Tuesday. "In the 24 hours following the operating system's public release, iOS 7.1 users generated 5.9 percent of total North American iOS Web traffic."

To reach its conclusions, Chitika examined tens of millions of US- and Canadian-based iOS online ad impressions on its network from 9 March through 11 March.

Apple iOS 7.1's two-day performance is "largely on par" with the earlier iOS 7.0.6, which was running on 13.3 per cent of Apple mobile devices 48 hours after its release. Meanwhile, iOS 7 was running on more than 80 per cent of North American iOS devices during the three-day study..
