Barack Obama hosts Narendra Modi: As it happened



Dinner at the White House ended on a positive note. PM Modi heads to Blair House.

PM Modi did not have dinner as he is fasting. He only had lukewarm water, said MEA.

Modi and Obama talked to each other for 90 minutes during the dinner.

People outside White House performed Garba, Bhangra in honour of PM Modi.

While dinner was on, White House released a vision statement for the US-India Strategic Partnership: 'Chalein saath saath: Forward together we go'.

US First Lady Michelle Obama was not present at the private dinner.

Around 20 dignitaries were present during the dinner.

The private dinner hosted by Obama begins at Blue Room.

Security was beefed up around White House as PM Modi arrived for private dinner.

US Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry, National Security Advisor Susan Rice and USAID chief Rajiv Shah were also invited at Obama's dinner for Modi, ANI reports.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh and Indian Ambassador to the US S Jaishankar accompanied PM Modi at the White House.

As per MEA, US President Barack Obama gave Modi a warm welcome at the door of the White House. He also greeted him by saying 'Kem Cho Mr Prime Minister' (A Gujarati way of asking 'How are you?').
